A strong smell of horse urine is affecting businesses in Killarney, a meeting of the municipal area council has heard.
Independent councillor Donal Grady is calling on the council to address the odor at the jarvey stand in the town centre.
But Kerry County Council says it doesn’t have the resources to clean the area.
Up to 30 horses can be located at the Jarveys’ base at the Ha Ha in Killarney at any time.
Kerry County Council says this will inevitably lead to smells of an equine nature at this location.
The July meeting of the Killarney Municipal Area heard the local authority already provides jarveys with disinfectant and water and the area is cleaned regularly.
Council staff also sweep the area in the mornings but the council says it does not have the resources to clean it again in the evenings.
Cllr Donal Grady says the strong smell of urine is affecting nearby businesses, including hotels, the cinema, cafes and restaurants.
He said it was also very unpleasant for locals and visitors and wants to see the area “flushed out” with water by council staff at 7pm.
