An independent councillor is calling on Kerry County Council to ‘declare war’ on Japanese Knotweed.

Japanese Knotweed

Cllr Michael Cahill was speaking at a recent council meeting where he asked that the council consider amending the County Development Plan to include an Invasive Weed Survey as a condition of planning.

The council said responsibility in respect of the eradication and treatment of Japanese Knotweed is like that of any landowner, in that it needs to manage the weed on its own land and to prevent its spread.

Further to this the council said it is not its role to eradicate Japanese Knotweed across the county.
