Independent councillor Dan McCarthy, who is also manager of Kenmare Mart, wants the council to ask the OPW that if and when the deer cull takes place in Killarney National Park for the meat to be used for human consumption.

He says the meat should be donated to shelters and food banks.

Mr McCarthy says the meat is completely organic and although venison isn’t to everybody’s taste, it should be an option on menus.
