« BackCouncillor calls for disused hospitals in Dingle and Killarney to be acquired to address accommodation crisis

Disused hospitals such as St Elizabeth’s in Dingle and St Finian’s in Killarney could be converted into apartments to address social housing needs.

That’s according to Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael O’Shea who is calling on the HSE, Kerry County Council and voluntary social housing groups to consider their acquisition.

Cllr O’Shea said a similar undertaking has proven successful in Waterford where a former seminary was converted into 30 self contained apartments:

 

Cllr O’Shea added however while there is a shortage of accommodation for seasonal staff in Dingle and Killarney, this type of central accommodation would be more suited to the elderly and single persons
