A Kerry County Councillor is calling for a crackdown on illegal roadside advertising.
Kerry Independent Alliance Cllr Michael Gleeson says some billboards dominate a landscape and even eliminate views.
Cllr Gleeson said roadside advertising is often extremely ugly and can be a distraction to drivers.
Cllr Gleeson says it has now taken on a new form with articulated trucks being parked on roadsides or in fields.
He added that roadside advertising for the purpose of elections and election candidates is well regulated in law and lawmakers should respect the law.
Kerry County Council says the placing of trailer advertising signage constitutes development under planning legislation and therefore requires planning on private property or a licence on public ground.
The council says it has issued enforcement notices for the removal of such unauthorised signs.
