A Kerry family has wrongly waited a year longer than they should have for social housing because of uncertainty around guidelines in Kerry County Council.
Sinn Féin Councillor Toireasa Ferris is making the claim, and says this family is now waiting 12 years to be housed by the council.
Cllr Toireasa Ferris says the person in question is a qualified applicant for family type housing with Kerry County Council, and last year availed of RAS Rental Accommodation Scheme.
She says the person was wrongly removed from the council’s housing list but has since been put back on it.
However, Cllr Ferris says this person and their family hasn’t been offered a property by Kerry County Council on the basis of uncertainty around guidelines on assessing applicants, and whether the person’s changed income should be taken into account.
However, despite requesting clarity from the council since last year, Cllr Ferris says she has had no confirmation on this.
At the monthly meeting of the council on Monday, Cllr Ferris read an email she had received with a response from Housing Minister Simon Coveney, saying the person in question should not be reassessed and this information was previously communicated to all councils.
