Kerry County Council is to submit the South Kerry Greenway project to An Bord Pleanala early next year.
Funding of around three-and-a-half million euro has been secured for the 26 kilometre proposed greenway from Caherciveen to Glenbeigh
Around 170 parcels of land will be affected by the South Kerry Greenway, which Kerry County Council says has the potential to bring millions of euro to the local economy.
Many landowners along the route have concerns about it, and are against the compulsory purchase of their lands.
The council says work is ongoing on the final design details of the project, which will determine the required land take.
Once complete, the final design will be brought to a series of public consultation days in south Kerry to allow affected landowners to see the selected route.
Kerry County Council intends to submit the South Kerry Greenway project to An Bord Pleanala early next year for adjudication on the CPO and planning application for the scheme.
The council revealed the details in response to a question from Kenmare Fine Gael Cllr Patrick Connor Scarteen.
