« BackCouncil to seek loan of over half a million for new road in mid Kerry to replace collapsed structure

Kerry County Council are to seek a term loan of €550,000 to fund the construction of Rossbeigh’s Cliff Road.

The loan – repayable over 15 years – forms part of the estimated €1.1 million cost of the road inclusive of overheads, design costs and land acquisition.
Cliff Road, a cul-de-sac local tertiary road serving 14 properties, was severely undermined by coastal erosion last year, necessitating its closure for safety measures and the provision of emergency measures to allow local residents remain in their homes.

The closure of the road has had a significant impact on the local community with very limited potential solutions to restoring access given local topography.

CEO of Kerry County Council Moira Murrell outlined details of the €550,000 loan at the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.

Cllr Toireasa Ferris welcomed the works but expressed concern about other parts of the county, such as Banna and Fenit which she says are “disasters waiting to happen”.
