O’Shea’s funeral directors also accused the local authority of not being able to grasp the gravity of the need for a new cemetery for the town.
In a strongly-worded letter to a local councillor, the undertakers claim there is only five remaining double plots at Aghadoe Cemetery – the equivalent of two months’ burials.
Councillors say the issue of space in Aghadoe was first flagged 16 years ago.
Independent Councillor Brendan Cronin said he had been made a fool of by the council by assurances he was given regarding the acquisition of a new cemetery for Aghadoe.
He told the July meeting of the Killarney Municipal Area he was “misled” by the council and he apologised to the people that the information he received was not correct.
Cllr Cronin had convened an emergency meeting of the municipal area in March to discuss the issue but he said in the four months since, nothing had happened.

Town Manager Angela McAllen acknowledged the frustration of Cllr Cronin and members of the public.
Ms McAllen said four months was a long time but she assured the meeting she was taking the matter very seriously.
She gave members her “personal assurance’ that the matter was a priority for senior management of Kerry County Council.
