Kerry County Council has had to call off a survey that was being carried out in Listowel, following a number of complaints from members of the public.
The traffic survey was being carried out by a private company that was commissioned by the local authority to work on William Street in Listowel town centre.
However, members of the public quickly began to ring the council and Radio Kerry complaining about the traffic chaos it was causing during race week.
Today is Ladies’ Day at Listowel Races when over 20,000 people are expected in the town for the popular event.
Local Fianna Fáil councillor Jimmy Moloney said it was ‘ludicrous’ for the survey to be taking place on one of the busiest days of the year.
