« BackCoroner orders fresh inquests into deaths of 21 people in Birmingham bombings

Gavel 2A senior coroner in the UK has ordered fresh inquests into the deaths of 21 people in the British pub bombings previously blamed on the Birmingham six.

The original hearings were stopped after the six Northern Irish men were jailed for the attacks – however their convictions were ruled unsafe almost two decades later.

The British coroner had previously said she’d received a “significant” piece of new information – relating to a claim British security services may have had knowledge of the 1974 bombings beforehand.

It’s long been believed the IRA was responsible.
