« BackContracts signed to construct permanent tidal defence barrier in Foynes

A permanent tidal defence barrier is to be erected in Foynes, Co Limerick in a bid to prevent future flooding.

The Office of Public Works has approved €2.3 million for the Flood Alleviation Project for the town which is situated on the N69, the Listowel to Limerick road.

In January and February of 2014, the highest tides ever witnessed in Foynes were recorded; they resulted in flooding to local homes and businesses.

Following a competitive tender Wills Bros Ltd has been selected to undertake the work, and contracts have been signed with works due to begin in September.
