There are grave concerns among arthritis sufferers in Kerry over the potential loss of a consultant rheumatologist at University Hospital Kerry.
It’s understood Dr Mohammad Haroon has submitted a letter of resignation to hospital management – it’s thought possibly due to the failure to appoint a clinical nursing specialist in rheumatology.
According to Tomas Barrett of Arthritis Ireland Kerry, a suitable candidate for the position has been identified.
But it’s Mr Barrett’s view red tape may have hampered a potential appointment.
With over 700 rheumatology patients on waiting lists in Kerry, Mr Barrett says the loss of a consultant rheumatologist in Kerry will have a serious impact – especially with regards to medication:
