« BackComReg warns Kerry public about hoax call from apparently distressed woman

The communications regulator is warning people in Kerry to always be on their guard about a phone scam involving an apparently distressed woman asking for help.

Radio Kerry has been inundated by calls from people in the county who have been targeted by this scam, which comes from a number from Somalia.

Some people have been left out of pocket by over 40 euro.

ComReg says it is aware of this number contacting people. It says the number in question is 25244851232 and the last digit can sometimes be 3 or 6.

Mary’s mother-in-law was caught out by the scam, which she found quite distressing.

She says the experience was quite frightening and is advising anyone who gets this call to hang up:
