A Community Garden of Remembrance is to open in Killarney this morning.
The garden features an engraved life-size replica of the 1916 Proclamation, a flagpole with the tricolor and seven trees to represent the seven signatories of the proclamation.
The Community Garden of Remembrance is located beside Killarney Courthouse and a number of local school-children will participate in its launch this morning at 11 o’clock.
MC for the event is Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
Meanwhile, Ireland’s young people are making their very own Proclamations today as part of a 1916 event at schools and colleges across the country. “Proclamation Day” is set to be an annual event, when the tricolour is raised above every school and the original proclamation is read out by students. It’s also about giving students the chance to put forward their vision for the future.
