There are no alternative plans for the future use of the St Mary of the Angels, Beaufort site and a commitment has been made the site will be there for people with disabilities in the future.
That’s according to General Manager of St John of God Kerry, Claire O’Dwyer who’s moved to reassure families St Mary of the Angels, Beaufort is not closing.
Ms O’Dwyer said talks between St John of God and the HSE relating to a policy of decongregation was about giving people options, but that no changes would take place without consultation with residents and their families.
A parents’ action group has been formed on behalf of the 78 residents amid fears they may be moved from St Mary of the Angels.
Ms O’Dwyer admitted St John of God’s communication with families of residents had been poor and apologised.
She went on to make a commitment the site would be designated for the use of people with disabilities in the future:
Ms O’Dwyer also said St Francis Special School, which is also on the St Mary of the Angels campus, would remain in place.
