The Garda Commissioner says that there are no plans at present to close any more Garda stations in Kerry.
Nóirín O’Sullivan was speaking in Castleisland this afternoon at the official opening of the new €3.8 million garda station in the town.
Commissioner O’Sullivan said the force is taking a partnership approach to policing in rural areas and additional resources have gone into transport to allow gardaí to serve isolated communities.
In 2013, nine stations in rural parts of Kerry were closed by the Department of Justice.
But Nóirín O’Sullivan says further garda station closures are not on the horizon at this time:
In opening the new Castleisland station, Commissioner O’Sullivan said she would hope to see a similar redevelopment of the divisional headquarters in Tralee.
It is currently on a works programme with the Office of Public Works but no timeframe is yet available for its refurbishment:
