A Kerry senator has called for more regulation of unlicensed auctioneers.
Fine Gael’s Paul Coghlan says 242 cases were brought to the attention of the Property Services Regulatory Authority since it was set up in 2012.
Senator Coghlan, who is a member of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers, says it is the authority’s policy to prosecute those found to be trading without a license.
A number of cases have already been before the courts with more pending.
Two have resulted in convictions.
