Homes and workplaces throughout Kerry have been holding coffee mornings today, to raise money for the Kerry Hospice.
Events were held at 90 different locations in Tralee alone, with many more being organised by community groups and companies around the county.
The Kerry Hospice Foundation hopes to start work on a new 15-room inpatient unit, adjacent to the existing palliative care centre, next month.
It will cost at least five point five million Euro to build, and a further 400 thousand Euro a year to run, all of which must come from the Foundation’s own sources.
Spokesman Ted Moynihan says the coffee morning usually raises around 50 thousand Euro each year in Kerry.
