« BackClaim that councillors do more work for less pay compared to senators

It’s being claimed that councillors are doing quadruple the work for a quarter of the pay a senator receives.

Bobby O'Connell. 2That’s according to Castleisland Fine Gael Cllr Bobby O’Connell, who says there is a sense of apathy among councillors in the run-up to the Seanad elections.

Speaking in his capacity as General Secretary of LAMA – the Local Authorities Members’ Association – Cllr O’Connell said some senators were hard working.

However the feedback he has received from LAMA members is that some councillors feel they have not heard from other sitting senators in years.

He added there is a sense of apathy among councillors in relation to the pay senators receive – as they feel a councillor’s workload is far greater:
