« BackChamber says Tralee’s smokers, publicans and bookies must clean up their act

Bookies and pubs in Tralee town centre must provide bins for their smoking customers, if Tralee is to retain its gold medal in the national Tidy Towns competition.

That’s according to Chief Exective of Tralee Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Kieran Ruttledge, who’s also appealing to the town’s smokers, to pick up their cigarette butts. Mr Ruttledge says that according to the judge’s report from last year, cigarette butts in the town centre is a major issue – and the areas outside bookmakers and pubs were deemed the worst for this problem. Ahead of the second visit of judges next month, he appealed to premises that don’t currently provide a bin for their smokers, to do so immediately. To date, 300 businesses in Tralee have been written to by the Chamber, and asked to make a big effort for this year’s Tidy Towns. Mr Ruttledge says, a clean Tralee will also be good for business:
