The Chair of the Law Society in Kerry says joined-up thinking is needed to redevelop the existing courthouse in Tralee.

The Court Services says improved facilities are needed but this cannot be provided at the current site on Ashe Street; instead a site at the old Barracks in Ballymullen is being explored.

However, the Kerry Law Society are strongly against this proposal.

The court house in Ashe Street dates back to the early 19th century and has no wheelchair access unless by prior appointment.

Chair of the Kerry Law Society John Galvin says it would be appalling to move from the historic Ashe Street site as there are options to refurbish and it provides vital income to the town centre.
