The Chair of Build4Life, a Kerry charity that has raised millions for a cystic fibrosis unit in Cork has welcomed the announcement that the unit is to open at the end of this month.
However Joe Browne from Castleisland says he hopes the 20 bed facility in Cork University Hospital which has been 8 and a half years in the making will open at full capacity. The delayed opening of the unit is to feature on Prime Time tonight. He says two weeks ago Deputies Tom Fleming and Brendan Griffin were told that once CUH reached appropriate nurse staffing levels, the hospital would proceed to identify a transfer date at the end of October for Cystic Fibrosis inpatient service.
