A West Kerry councillor is calling for the development of a parking area at Casadh na Gráige on the Slea Head Drive.
The popular vantage point is frequented by up to half a million tourist every year eager to see where Ryan’s Daughter, and more recently Star Wars, was filmed.
Cllr Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald says some coaches and cars parking dangerously at Casadh na Gráige and that a viewing park should be developed in the interest of safety.
Cllr Cosaí added Failte Ireland have designated the vantage point as the most spectacular on the Wild Atlantic Way – with the increased exposure of Star Wars, the development is badly warranted:
In response the council outlined the area in question is a special area of conservation and an environmental impact assessment screening would need to be carried out in advance.
The council further outlined completion of this project will be subject to the availability of funding and successfully acquiring necessary lands – which are a commonage – by agreement.
