A call by a councillor to erect safety bollards at all crossroads in the Listowel Municipal District would cost up to €340,000.

The Square, Listowel

Kerry County Council says these green and white bollards – or junction definition posts – are designed to mark junctions in rural areas, and are generally used at the intersection of national routes with minor roads.

They say to erect these posts at all intersections in the Listowel MD would cost between €280,000 and €340,000, and they don’t have the money for this.

Fine Gael Cllr Mike Kennelly says while he understands it’s not possible to do all at once, he’d like to see the council erecting safety bollards at a number of junctions each year.
