Incidents covered by Kerry Fire Service increased by 18 per cent in the first five months of the year compared to the same period in 2014.
Up to the end of May, 587 incidents were dealt with by the service. This is up from 477 in the same period last year.
Chimney fires increased from 72 to 86 this year.
The number of road collisions dealt with by the service in the five months was down 8 from 2014 to 60.
Training for fire fighting recruits began in May to fill positions in Tralee, Killarney, Killorglin and Castleisland.
