A councillor has called for the Ryan’s Daughter school house to be acquired by Kerry County Council and Fáilte Ireland.
The house in Dún Chaoin was a central focus in the 1970 film.
The motion was raised by west Kerry Councillor Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald.
Kerry County Council said the proposal would constitute an undoubted tourist attraction but the property is currently in private ownership and there is no indication the owners wish to sell.
The local authority says the tourism unit will investigate further and will liaise with Fáilte Ireland on the proposal.
