There’s a call for roads in North Kerry to get treble the funding of the rest of the county.

Listowel Municipal District councillors are to write to the Minster for Transport and seek a delegation, to put their case forward for additional funding because they say roads are in such a bad condition.

Speaking at their monthly meeting, Cllr Robert Beasley said roads in North Kerry are built on bog, as opposed to mountains or rock in other parts of the county.

He said roads in the area are threadbare, and fears they’d disintegrate in a bad frost, and he says that can’t be allowed happened when the area is so dependent on tourism.

Cathaoirleach of Listowel MD, Fine Gael Cllr Aoife Thorton, who raised the issue, proposed that members write and seek a cross party delegation to fight for more money for next year.
