A Kerry County Councillor is calling on the local authority to implement a thorough cleaning of road signage.
Independent Councillor Maura Healy-Rae says signs aren’t being cleaned, and this has an impact on both tourism and motorists’ safety.
Councillor Healy-Rae told the recent meeting of Kerry County Council that it appears road signs aren’t being cleaned, and this is harmful from a tourism and safety point of view.
The council said the cleaning of road signs on the national road network in Kerry is managed directly by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and signs are cleaned every six months by a contractor.
Signage on the regional and local road network is maintained by the council, and cleaning is carried out as identified by the local area staff.
The local authority says if particular signs are in need of cleaning, they can be referred to local area offices.
