Cllr Michael Cahill is to seek support from Fianna Fáil members in an effort to run as a party candidate in the next General Election.
Cllr Cahill has been a member of Kerry County Council since 1989 and left Fianna Fáil, along with former Deputy Tom Fleming, in 2011.
He was re-elected to Kerry County Council as an independent in 2014 – but re-joined the Fianna Fáil party earlier this year.
Cllr Cahill says he is currently hosting meetings – including a meeting this Saturday – in an effort to gauge support from fellow party members.
He says he plans on putting a team together:
Meanwhile, former Fine Gael Kerry deputy Jimmy Deenihan has not ruled out another run for the Dáil.
The former Minister lost his seat in the last election, having served in North Kerry for almost 30 years.
