The biggest rise was in the urban centres of Killarney and Listowel – and Tralee in particular.
During the month of June in Tralee, there was a one hundred percent increase in burglaries from the previous year.
Chief Supt Pat Sullivan says this was largely the work of local juvenile criminals, many of whom have since been detained.
While many of the burglaries in Kerry during the year were the work of gangs from outside the county, many were committed by local, Kerry-based criminals as well, he says.
Chief Supt Sullivan praised the work of the detective branch in the Kerry Garda division, for bringing many of the criminals to justice.
