Tributes are being paid to Garda Tony Golden – who was shot dead as he responded to a domestic disturbance in Co Louth.
It happened at a house in Omeath – where a woman was also seriously wounded before the gunman turned the weapon on himself. Locals say they’re sleepless with shock – and now feel less safe in their community.
From Co Louth, Richard Chambers reports:
Meanwhile, the Kerry representative on the Garda Representative Association, Seamus Moriarty, says the death of Garda Tony Golden is a blow to all members. He was among the gardai in Kerry who travelled to the funeral of Garda Adrian O’Donoghue in Co Louth less than three years ago. He expects there will be a similar show of support this time by Gardai from all over the country.
Books of condolence for Garda Tony Golden have been opened at Garda stations in Kerry. Books are available at Tralee, Killarney and Listowel garda stations.
