The best spud in West Kerry will be determined tonight in Tigh TPs in Baile na Gall.
Potatoes from eight parishes, 58 individuals and over 30 school contestants are competing in this year’s Féile na Phráta.
The spud fest kicked off earlier at 4pm at a special community marquee erected to showcase the potatoes.
This year there was great interest in An Práta Pláta, which required entrants to concoct potato dishes comprising of 80% spud. Judging is currently taking place.
The final of An Spud Off Mór will be beginning shortly – finalists this year include Bosco Ó Conchúir, Paróiste Cois Cnoic; Pádraig Jeaic Shé, Paróiste Mórdhach; Tony Ó Sé, Fionn Trá; Scoil Iognáid Rís, Daingean Uí Chúis and Risteard MacEoin, Lios Póíl.
A ‘Post Potato Peel Yield’ competition will be hosted afterwards.
The festival was founded five years ago and continues to attract visitors from across the county.
Proceeds raised through Féile an Phráta will be donated to Kerry Hospice.
