Ballymac native Aiden Corkery and his Fiancé were on holidays in the North of the city a few miles from the shooting.
They initially were told that there was a second shooting close to their hotel however this was later confirmed to be false.
Having been advised by police to hide indoors they spent the evening in an Irish pub.
Nine people were killed and 27 injured by a gunman who later took his own life in an attack at a McDonald’s and a shopping centre yesterday.
10 of those injured are said to be in a critical condition.
Mr Corkery who is the News Editor with the Irish Daily Mail said while there is increased security, Munich is not a city in ‘lock down’:
