A baby dolphin that became stranded in bogland has been released back into deeper waters off the coast of Cork.
The dolphin got detached from his pod and became stranded in bogland due to extreme high tides last night. Ballycotton RNLI was launched shortly after 7pm and both the all-weather and inshore lifeboats attended the scene, following a request from the Ballycotton Coast Guard Unit. Two volunteer crew members entered the water and assisted the dolphin back to deeper waters in Ballycotton Bay by swimming alongside it and guiding it towards open water. Ballycotton RNLI Coxswain Eolan Walsh said it was an unusual request but they were happy to help.
