It will be at least a year before the rising cost of car insurance premiums are tackled, according to a young Kerryman who’s spearheading a campaign on the issue.

Kian Griffin of Ireland Underground addressed an Oireachtas committee yesterday to discuss the rising costs, especially among younger drivers.

The Killorglin man, who organised a protest in Dublin during the summer to highlight the issue, says the committee were very receptive to his suggestions but are slow to proceed.

He claims a financial expert in the insurance industry predicts an 11% rise in the cost of car insurance premiums in the coming year.

While the committee are reporting to the Minister next month, Mr Griffin expects it to be a year before rising car insurance premiums are addressed.
