The Asthma Society is calling for an upgrade to Kerry’s only air monitoring station which it says can’t detect certain pollutants which can trigger asthma attacks and other conditions.
According to the Asthma Society, there are more than 14 thousand asthmatics in Kerry.
The organisation is calling on the Government to upgrade the air monitoring station in Valentia.
It says the station can’t detect certain air pollutants, called particulate matter.
The Asthma Society says the nationwide smoky coal ban also needs to be implemented as soon as possible.
It says nearly 2,000 people die every year in Ireland as a result of air pollution.
