An Ardfert schoolgirl has won a national essay competition for her inspirational video, ‘Someone Like Me’.
12-year-old Bríd Courtney, who is in 6th class at Ardfert National School, was the winner of the competition which promotes positive attitudes towards disability in primary schools.
Bríd, who has cerebral palsy, which affects her limbs and speech, wrote about her experiences in a video essay.
Minister of State for Equality, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin presented Bríd with her award at Farmleigh House in Dublin.
Pupils and staff of Ardfert National School gathered at Tralee Railway Station last evening to welcome her home.
12-year-old Avril Barrett described the welcome and explained why BrÍd is her best friend.
