Kerry County Council has applied to Irish Water for funding to replace water pipes at a site in mid Kerry that’s prone to breakages.
Families in Barleymount have been without water several times in recent weeks due to the breaks.
Other sections of the pipe network out of the Barleymount Reservoir, which have been subject to repeated bursts in recent years, are set to be replaced in July in a €300,000 programme.
However, this 400 metre section of pipe, immediately south of Coolroe (Cool-ru) Cross South, isn’t included, but Kerry County Council has now requested funding of €89,000 from Irish Water for the work.
The section of road at this location is set to be developed under the 2016 Roads Programme, however local Councillor Brendan Cronin says it would be pointless doing the road before the pipes are replaced.
