St. John of God Services has acknowledged its failure to obtain appropriate consent in relation to the inclusion of names of residents at St Mary’s of the Angels Beaufort on local authority housing lists.
St Mary of the Angels is a residential facility for people with learning disabilities.
The issue was discussed at the recent HSE South Regional Health Forum meeting following question submissions from Cllr John Joe Cullotty, Cllr Mike Kennelly and Cllr Johnny Healy Rae.
The forum heard St John of God Services has contacted each family individually to apologise.
The HSE South Regional Health Forum meeting heard St John of God Services confirmed to both the HSE and Kerry County Council that names were placed on local authority housing lists without appropriate consent or communication with families.
St. John of God Services acknowledged their failure to obtain appropriate consent in relation to inclusion of the resident’s names on housing lists and has contacted each family individually to apologise. No resident will remain on the housing list without appropriate consent.
The meeting heard residents who avail of the opportunity to move to community living will be provided with the appropriate level of supports based on their assessed needs and abilities. Staff currently working in St Mary of the Angels Beaufort will be encouraged to continue to work with the residents in new settings.
Families are to be fully informed, consulted and invited to participate fully in decisions around their family members in St. Mary of the Angels.
