A Tralee shopkeeper was subjected to a terrifying ordeal this morning when a man armed with an iron bar entered the premises demanding cash.
The incident happened shortly after 8 o’clock this morning at Hussey’s store on Prince’s Street. The raider left empty-handed after the female shop assistant refused to hand over any money.
The man fled the scene but was arrested minutes later by gardai.
The incident was one of five robberies in the Tralee area in the past week.
It follows an attempted robbery at Spar in Oakpark on Friday night when a 22-year-old man entered the shop at 10.15pm, armed with a knife and demanding money.
Martin O’Sullivan of Market Street, Tralee was brought before a special sitting of the district court on Saturday where he was remanded on bail.
Gda Linda O’Sullivan praised the bravery of the assistant at Hussey’s.
