An Bord Pleanala has upheld a decision by Kerry County Council to grant permission for a single wind turbine in North Kerry.
The development at Aghamore North Townland, Causeway is being built by Coillte Teoranta.
The turbine has a hub height of up to 65 metres with a rotar diameter of up to 55 metres giving an overall height of up to 92.5 metres.
Kerry County Council granted permission with revised conditions for the turbine last November but this was appealed by the Board of Management of Killahan National School and concerned residents.
An Bord Pleanala Inspector Pauline Fitzpatrick who visited the site in February and examined evidence from all parties recommended that permission would not be granted for the turbine as it would contravene the County Development Plan.
Ms Fitzpatrick also considered that the provision of a single wind turbine would represent a haphazard and uncoordinated approach to wind energy.
However, the planning appeals board decided not to accept this recommendation as it deemed the turbine didn’t involve a material contravention of the development plan.
It granted permission subject to 17 conditions.
