An ambulance which was due to take an 81-year-old man, who’s a paraplegic, to hospital has been cancelled for the third time.
Yesterday, an ambulance was to take Jim Scanlon to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire but it was cancelled at short notice.
Because of his injuries, the Listowel man can only be taken by ambulance.
His appointment at the NRH last July was also cancelled as was a scheduled visit to Kerry General Hospital in August.
Jim’s wife Nora says because of the cancellations, Jim has yet to be seen by specialists at the hospital in Dún Laoghaire since he was injured last year.
According to Nora, the ambulance service says it had to cancel because of lack of resources.
