Thousands of AIB customers have been locked out of their accounts after an IT issue at the company .
This IT issue means customers cannot access their accounts on line or on the phone.
The bank says its not yet clear whether transactions are being processed so it could well impact direct debit transactions and money transfers.
In a statement the bank says customers can continue to withdraw cash from ATM’s and make purchases in store and online with their AIB credit and debit cards.
The branch network is also open and customers can also go to their local bank for help with their transactions.
The bank has apologised for any inconvenience caused and says they are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Its the second time in recent weeks the bank has experienced a technical hitch. Last month internet tablet and mobile banking services were down for a number of hours.
