Motorists have been caught driving up to 170 kilometres per hour on Kerry roads according to gardaí.
The force are appealing to motorists across the country to slow down – with a national enforcement operation currently underway.
Speed is a factor in a third of all fatal road collisions and Gardai are trying to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding.
There’ll be extra speed checks throughout the country until 7am tomorrow and road safety messages will be delivered through the media.
Sergeant Dermot O’Connell of Killarney Garda Station says motorists, who were subsequently prosecuted, were caught driving up to 170 kilometres per hour on Kerry roads where the speed limit was 100 kilometres:
