Almost half of drink driving cases that came before Kerry courts in recent years were adjourned.
That’s according to statistics released by acting Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald for the period from January 2013 to May last year.
Nine hundred and ninety three drink driving cases were listed before Kerry courts between January 2013 and May 2015.
Of these, nearly half were adjourned.
Verdicts were reached on the remaining 513 cases; with a 57 per cent conviction rate in the county.
In Killorglin the conviction rate was 70%, Dingle 61%, Killarney 60%, Tralee 59%, Kenmare 58%, Listowel was almost 45% and Cahersiveen nearly 43%.
Not surprisingly, given their size, more than half the drink driving cases were listed for Tralee and Killarney’s courts.
