electricity50,000 customers were without power in Kerry this morning following an explosion.

It happened at the ESB’s main transmission station on the Listowel road in Tralee at Laharn at 9.10, and knocked out power to Tralee and Killarney towns, west Kerry, and south Kerry.

The ESB believes all customers have now been reconnected, but anyone who remains without power should contact them on 1850 372 999.

While power has been restored, the ESB says it’ll be carrying out a full investigation and there’s still a lot of work to do to fix the equipment.

ESB Kerry area manager Ger Deenihan explains what happened.
