30 specialised engineering jobs have been announced for Kerry.

Communications technology company iDirect are to establish an engineering and innovation centre in Killarney, creating 30 jobs over the next five years.

Kerry TDs Brendan Griffin and Michael Healy-Rae both welcomed the announcement.

iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology and has centers all over the world.

The company specialises in voice, video and data connectivity, and provides technologies to businesses in the government, military and cellular industries.

They also provide engineering solutions to markets in the aerospace, electronics, land systems and marine sectors.

The new roles in Killarney will focus on software, hardware and systems engineering technologies.

CEO of the IDA, Martin Shanahan, says the availability of appropriate technology, talent and skills in the South West was an important consideration for the company.
