There are 28 open applications for single rural dwellings in the county, according to Kerry County Council.
A motion brought by Councillor Maura Healy-Rae to a monthly meeting of the Council asked for an update on the provision of social housing in the county.
In response, Kerry County Council says it constructed a total of six rural dwellings in the past five years, and has 28 open applications for single rural dwellings.
The Council is re-evaluating all applications to see if accommodation needs can be addressed locally.
Following this process, the Council will proceed to the site assessment and planning stages.
