A special meal will be hosted in Dublin this evening to commemorate the final pre-Christmas dinner shared by Ernest Shackleton and his crew aboard the Endurance before it was crushed by ice in 1915.
Among those who attended the dinner on board the ship in the Antarctic was west Kerry native, Tom Crean.
Tonight’s meal is being hosted by the Royal St George Yacht Club in Dún Laoghaire and among the guests will be Tom Crean’s grandson, Brendan O’Brien, who’s originally from Tralee.
Brendan says a lot of effort is going into recreating the meal which was enjoyed by the 28 men on board – it included mock turtle soup and deviled whitebait.
